Red Wings @ Blackhawks 01/08/12 Preview


The Chicago Blackhawks (24-13-4) will face off with the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night at United Center with first place in the Central Division on the line.  The Wings are currently one point behind Chicago in the standings and will play in Toronto Saturday before traveling to Chicago.  This will mark the second of six meeting with Detroit and the Hawks won the first game 3-2 at home December 30th behind goals from Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa, and Brent Seabrook.  Justin Abdelkader and Todd Bertuzzi scored for Detroit.  Corey Crawford stopped 26 of 28 shots to earn the victory.  Jimmy Howard stopped 25 of 28 Hawks shots in the loss.  Detroit won 2 of 3 meetings at United Center last season.  Marian Hossa leads the Hawks with 42 points and Jonathan Toews leads the way with 22 goals.  Pavel Datsyuk leads the way for Detroit with 40 points and Johan Franzen has a team high 16 goals.  The Blackhawks, who have been horrible defensively in the last few games, are expecting defenseman Steve Montador back for the game.
